The Snow Queen

Our midterm project for my Illustration class was a two page spread illustration of a story we remembered from our childhood. I had a book of classic children's stories, which I still have today, that had The Wizard of Oz, Pinnochio, Country Mouse and City Mouse, and The Snow Queen in it and I just fell in love with The Snow Queen. Thus, the logical choice for me was to illustrate this classic fairy tale.

Here's the final piece:

And some progress shots:

The final piece was cropped at the suggestion of my professor.

Media Roundup

Just a roundup of pieces from Media class last semester.

Our first project was a pen and ink drawing of a fish, thus, The Happy Pufferfish was born.

Another project was using scratch board, so I decided to challenge myself by trying to render glass using a portrait of Anton Yelchin as reference.

And now some oil rub portraits of the 11 actors to play The Doctor on Doctor Who. We only had to do one image, but the idea of doing several small portraits just struck me as something fun to try.

Each portrait is 3"x4"

We also did projects in watercolor, acrylic, and chalk pastel, but I don't currently have scans of those, so they're still to come.

White Project: Step by Step

Our latest project in Painting was to do a still life of entirely white objects on a white background, but we weren't allowed to use white at all until we had the entire under-painting down.

So here's a play by play, from start to almost finish. At least to where I got by the end of class today.

Still Lifes and Portraits

The still life's are from Painting class, the portraits from Figure. Each portrait took a little over an hour, each still life was multiple class sessions.

Well I finally got a blog, so be expecting occasional updates about my art here from time to time.
